Product Description
Product Description
80mm Knauf FactoryClad Roll 40 is an unfaced glass mineral wool insulation roll made for built-up metal roof and wall systems. It sits in the cavity formed between the inner liner sheet and the outer profiled weather sheet, carried on the rail and bracket spacer system, and is the entry thickness in the FactoryClad Roll 40 range. Twin-skin cladding on steel-framed industrial, commercial and agricultural buildings is its primary use.
Each roll runs 14.10m long by 1200mm wide, covering 16.92m², with 24 rolls to a pallet for 406.08m² in a single drop. Thermal conductivity is declared at 0.040 W/mK, giving a thermal resistance of 2.00 m²K/W at 80mm, and vapour resistivity is 5.00 MNs/g.m. At this depth the roll carries the largest coverage of any thickness in the grade, which is what makes it the usual pick where the existing spacer system fixes the cavity depth and a full re-specification is not on the table.
High tear strength counts for most on the longest roll in the range. Unrolling 14.10m across purlins or side rails, at height and often in wind, puts more handling stress on the quilt than a three-metre roll ever will, and a quilt that resists tearing goes in whole rather than in patched sections. Torn edges and gaps are where a built-up system loses the performance it was calculated for.
FactoryClad Roll 40 is laid over the liner sheet and taken up into the cavity by the spacer system before the outer sheet is fixed, in line with Knauf Insulation's guidance and the cladding system manufacturer's details. Because it is glass mineral wool it knits to slight irregularities in the substrate rather than bridging them, keeping contact across the run as the building moves and settles. On agricultural buildings the same 80mm layer does a second job: warming the underside of the sheet lifts it clear of dew point and cuts the surface condensation that drips onto stock, feed and machinery. U-values are a property of the whole build-up rather than the quilt on its own, so have the figure calculated for the specific system before ordering.
Key Benefits of Knauf FactoryClad Roll 40:
- 80mm glass mineral wool roll for built-up metal roof and wall systems.
- Declared thermal conductivity of 0.040 W/mK.
- Thermal resistance of 2.00 m²K/W at 80mm.
- Euroclass A1 reaction to fire, non-combustible to BS EN 13501-1.
- 16.92m² per roll, the largest coverage in the FactoryClad Roll 40 grade.
- 24 rolls per pallet, giving 406.08m² per pallet for larger runs.
- 1200mm roll width to suit commonly used rail and bracket spacer systems.
- High tear strength for handling long runs at height.
- Glass mineral wool absorbs sound and reduces reverberation inside metal-lined roofs and walls.
- Manufactured with ECOSE® Technology, a plant-based binder with no added formaldehyde or phenol.
- Rot proof, non-hygroscopic, and will not sustain vermin or support fungal or mould growth.
Good to know:
- Built-up systems only: designed for twin-skin profiled metal roofs and walls, not for loft, timber frame or cavity masonry work.
- The 40 is a lambda grade, not a thickness: FactoryClad Rolls are made in 32, 35 and 40 grades, referring to declared thermal conductivities of 0.032, 0.035 and 0.040 W/mK. The thickness of this roll is 80mm.
- U-values are system figures: calculate to BS EN ISO 6946:2017 or BS EN ISO 10211:2017 using BR443:2019 guidance rather than working from the quilt alone.
- Supplied uncut at 1200mm wide, so check the width against the spacer centres on the system being used.
- Store dry, flat, off the ground and under cover, and sheet over any exposed runs at the end of the working day.
- Euroclass A1 non-combustibility can count in your favour on insurance compared with foam composite panels. Confirm the position with the insurer for the building in question.
For steel-framed roofs and walls where the cavity depth is already fixed and coverage per roll counts, 80mm FactoryClad Roll 40 is the sensible starting point in the range.

Thermal performance helps show how effectively the product reduces heat transfer.
Thermal conductivity measures how readily heat passes through the material, so lower figures generally indicate better insulating performance.
R Value shows the material’s thermal resistance at that thickness, so higher figures generally mean stronger insulation performance.
These figures relate to the insulation product itself and should be considered alongside the full wall, roof or floor build-up when checking project requirements.
- Thermal Conductivity:
- 0.40 W/mK
Euroclass reaction to fire is the European EN 13501-1 classification used to show how a construction product behaves when exposed to fire.
The main scale runs from A1 and A2 at the highest end, through B, C, D and E, down to F.
A1 is non-combustible and A2 is limited combustibility, while lower classes indicate a greater contribution to fire.
Euroclass F is the lowest rating on this scale and indicates the weakest reaction-to-fire performance.
This is different from fire resistance, which relates to how long a complete wall, floor or roof build-up can resist fire.
- Reaction to Fire:
- Euroclass A1
