Where to Use Moisture Resistant Plasterboard
Moisture resistant plasterboard is the recommended board type for any interior space with high humidity such as bathrooms, en-suites, kitchens, utility rooms and cloakrooms. It's suitable for both wall and ceiling applications in these areas.
While not fully waterproof, water resistant plasterboard significantly slows moisture absorption, making it suitable for areas with high humidity and occasional water exposure. For areas with direct and constant water exposure (such as wet rooms or showers), specialist tile backer boards are recommended.
If you're unsure which board is right for your specific application, filter by thickness, brand or material above or get in touch with our team.
Installation, Fixing and Finishing
Waterproof plasterboard is straightforward to install using standard drywall methods, making it a practical choice for both trade professionals and DIY projects.
Boards are typically fixed to either timber studs or metal framing systems, depending on the environment. In areas such as bathrooms or kitchens, metal framing systems are generally recommended as they offer greater resistance to moisture and won't warp over time.
Moisture resistant plasterboard supports a range of finishes to suit your project. Boards can be skimmed with plaster, painted using a moisture-resistant coating, or tiled directly using a suitable waterproof adhesive. For tiled finishes, ensure the board specification supports the weight of your chosen tile and adhesive system.
