Our Expert Says

130mm Celotex XR4130 is the board for floor and roof build-ups where the U-value target has tightened past what 120mm will give, and you still want it met in one layer. Its thermal resistance of 5.90 m²K/W sits just short of 6.00, enough to push solid floors and warm roofs onto stricter Part L figures without stacking boards. Low-emissivity foil on both faces and square edges keep the layer working and continuous. A sound choice when the specification leans harder on performance than on fit. Click for our full review

Product Description

130mm Celotex XR4130 is a rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation board for floor and roof build-ups that need more resistance than the mid-range thicknesses give while staying a single cut-to-fit layer. At 130mm it answers the stricter U-value targets that come up on solid floors and warm roofs, where the specification has moved past 110mm and 120mm but a second board is not wanted.

Each board measures 2400mm x 1200mm, covers 2.88m² and is sold individually. With a declared thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK it reaches a thermal resistance of 5.90 m²K/W, closing on the 6.00 mark and sitting two steps above the entry XR4110, at a maximum board weight of around 5.32 kg per square metre. The rigid PIR core is faced both sides with a low-emissivity aluminium foil that improves performance against a sealed cavity air space, and the square edges butt up for a continuous, tight-jointed layer.

What the extra 10mm over the 120mm board buys is margin: 130mm lifts single-layer resistance to 5.90 m²K/W, so a floor or roof can clear a tighter U-value on one board rather than two, keeping the build-up depth and the number of taped joints down.

XR4130 works as a single cut-to-fit layer in solid and suspended floors, in warm flat and pitched roofs between or under rafters and joists, and across masonry walls and timber- and steel-framed systems. Install it in line with the latest Celotex technical guidance, the project specification and current Building Regulations, including fire requirements and the height limit on external wall use. In wall build-ups it should be covered with a fire-rated lining such as 12.5mm plasterboard. Where a project calls for a firmer floor or roof U-value without a doubled layer, the 130mm board carries it in one pass.

Key Benefits of 130mm Celotex XR4130:

  • 130mm rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) board, a deeper single-layer option for floors and roofs working to stricter U-value targets.
  • Thermal resistance (R-value) of 5.90 m²K/W, closing on the 6.00 mark for tighter specifications.
  • Declared thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK, delivering that resistance in a 130mm depth.
  • Meets a stricter floor or roof U-value in a single cut-to-fit layer, avoiding a second board and the extra joints with it.
  • Suits solid and suspended floors, warm flat and pitched roofs, masonry walls and timber- and steel-framed systems.
  • Low-emissivity aluminium foil facings on both sides, improving performance against sealed and cavity air spaces.
  • Square edges for flush, tight joints and a continuous insulation layer.
  • Manufactured with a blowing agent of zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP), free of CFCs and HCFCs.
  • Supplied as a single 2400mm x 1200mm board covering 2.88m², at a maximum board weight of around 5.32 kg per square metre.
  • BBA certified (Certificate 25/7318) for defined pitched roof, dry lining and floor applications.

Good to know:

  • Boards measure 2400mm x 1200mm and are sold individually, each covering 2.88m².
  • The foil facing is printed on one side only: fit the board with the plain face towards the cavity for the rated thermal performance.
  • The foil facing is not a vapour control layer; many floor and roof build-ups still need a separate VCL to manage interstitial condensation.
  • In wall applications the board should be covered with a fire-rated lining, such as 12.5mm plasterboard.
  • Celotex XR4000 should not be used in the external walls of buildings over 11 metres in height; check current Building Regulations for your project.
  • PIR is moisture resistant but not waterproof: store boards flat, off the ground, dry and out of prolonged sunlight.
  • Insulation UK offers a bespoke cutting service, supplying boards cut to your sizes to reduce waste and on-site mess.

When a floor or roof specification tightens but the build still has to come together in one layer, 130mm Celotex XR4130 brings 5.90 m²K/W to the line, holding the target without the depth and joints of a doubled board.

Product FAQs

Why does Celotex start with TB GA & XR? What do they mean?

Celotex comes in a range of thicknesses from 20mm to 200mm. These are the same boards made from PIR and foil backed. Celotex have put them into ranges to help you decide what thickness may be more suitable for your application, however you may have been given a specific U value you need to meet or been advised. If you are unsure, please contact our technical team sales@insulationuk.co.uk

TB4000

TB stands for thermal bridging, which is areas prone to cold spots & heat loss. Thickness ranges from 20mm to 40mm, ideal for tight spaces or for a multi layer build up.

GA4000

Is for general applications - ranging from 50mm to 100mm in thickness, these boards are more commonly used in walls, but are suitable for floors and pitched roofs. GA4100 100mm PIR insulation is perhaps the best selling thickness in this range.

XR4000

Stands for extra resistance, ranging from 110mm to 150mm this insulation is idea for when space isn't a restriction and where a superior thermal efficiency is required.

What do the numbers mean in Celotex PIR insulation for example TB4020 or GA4100 or XR4200

The 4000 is the range name given to Celotex PIR - so to differentiate between the thicknesses the coding starts with 4 to tell you the Celotex range then the thickness of the insulation is the preceding number.

4020 - 4000 range 20mm thickness

4075 - 4000 range 75mm thickness

4150 - 4000 range 150mm thickness

Thermal Performance

Thermal performance helps show how effectively the product reduces heat transfer.

Thermal conductivity measures how readily heat passes through the material, so lower figures generally indicate better insulating performance.

R Value shows the material’s thermal resistance at that thickness, so higher figures generally mean stronger insulation performance.

These figures relate to the insulation product itself and should be considered alongside the full wall, roof or floor build-up when checking project requirements.

Thermal Conductivity:
0.022 W/mK
R Value:
5.9 M²K/W
Physical Properties

Compressive strength shows how well a product resists being squashed under pressure.

The figure is measured in kPa, which stands for kilopascals.

A higher kPa number means stronger resistance to compression. For example, 120 kPa offers more compression resistance than 70 kPa, but less than 150 kPa, 200 kPa or 300 kPa.

This does not mean the product can carry that load on its own. It should always be checked as part of the full floor, wall, roof or system build-up.

Compressive Strength:
140 kPa
Fire Performance

Euroclass reaction to fire is the European EN 13501-1 classification used to show how a construction product behaves when exposed to fire.

The main scale runs from A1 and A2 at the highest end, through B, C, D and E, down to F.

A1 is non-combustible and A2 is limited combustibility, while lower classes indicate a greater contribution to fire.

Euroclass F is the lowest rating on this scale and indicates the weakest reaction-to-fire performance.

This is different from fire resistance, which relates to how long a complete wall, floor or roof build-up can resist fire.

Reaction to Fire:
Euroclass F
