Our Expert Says

72.5mm Celotex PL4060 is the one to specify when an older or solid-walled property is losing a lot of heat and you want a substantial thermal upgrade from a single dry-lining board. The 60mm rigid PIR core pushes thermal resistance to 2.75 m²K/W, second only to the 77.5mm board at the top of the range, behind a 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard ready to skim. It dry lines solid masonry and timber frame walls by dot and dab or mechanical fixing, and lines roof slopes and ceilings where a deeper board is workable. Plan for the depth at reveals, skirtings and sockets, since this is one of the thickest boards in the laminate range. Click for our full review

Product Description

72.5mm Celotex PL4060 is a thermal laminate insulated plasterboard that bonds a 60mm rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation core to a 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard, giving an overall thickness of 72.5mm. The '60' in the PL4060 code is the 60mm PIR core, one of the deepest in the laminate range, with only the 77.5mm board carrying more. It insulates and dry lines in one board, which makes it a frequent specification for retrofitting older and solid-walled buildings that lose a lot of heat through the wall and need a larger improvement than the mid-range boards can give.

The 60mm core gives a thermal conductivity (lambda) of 0.022 W/mK and an R-value (thermal resistance) of 2.75 m²K/W including the plasterboard, the second-highest single-board figure in the PL4000 range. Each sheet is 2400mm x 1200mm, covers 2.88m² and is sold individually, weighing around 11.31 kg/m². Only the 77.5mm board sits above it, so for most internal upgrades short of the maximum, this is the board that delivers the larger share of the thermal gain in one fix.

Bonding the insulation and the lining into one board lets a single dry-lining operation lift a cold wall's performance and leave a finished surface, instead of fixing insulation and then boarding over it. Because the core is deep, the board does add to the internal face, so it pays to set out reveals, window boards, skirtings and socket positions for the extra thickness before fixing begins.

72.5mm Celotex PL4060 is used to dry line internal solid masonry and timber frame walls, and beneath pitched roof rafters and flat roof joists as the inner lining. On solid walls it is commonly fixed to treated battens or direct-bonded by dot and dab where the background is sound, dry and free of damp. Install it to the latest Celotex technical guidance, the project specification and current Building Regulations, including fire requirements, vapour control and any ventilation the roof build-up needs. Detailed correctly on an older wall, it helps control the risk of surface condensation now that the masonry sits colder behind the insulation, and supports a marked reduction in heat loss. As across the range, it should not be used in the external walls of buildings over 11 metres in height.

Key Benefits of Celotex PL4060:

  • Thermal laminate bonding a 60mm rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) core to 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard, 72.5mm overall.
  • R-value (thermal resistance) of 2.75 m²K/W including the plasterboard, the second-highest in the PL4000 range.
  • Thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK, giving a large single-board thermal gain for retrofit work.
  • Specified for upgrading older and solid-walled properties that lose significant heat through the wall.
  • Insulates and dry lines in one operation, avoiding a separate insulation-then-board sequence.
  • Fixes to battens or studwork mechanically, or direct-bonds to sound, dry masonry by dot and dab.
  • Tapered edge plasterboard ready for taped, filled joints and a skim or paint finish.
  • Euroclass B-s1, d0 reaction to fire to BS EN 13501-1.
  • BRE Green Guide A+ rating, which can support BREEAM credits.
  • Blowing agent with zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP) and low Global Warming Potential (GWP), CFC/HCFC free.
  • BBA certified (Certificate 16/5357) for plasterboard thermal laminate applications.
  • 2400mm x 1200mm board covering 2.88m², sold individually, at around 11.31 kg/m².

Good to know:

  • The 72.5mm overall thickness is a 60mm rigid PIR core plus a 12.5mm tapered edge plasterboard.
  • This is one of the thickest laminate boards, so set out reveals, window boards, skirtings and socket and switch positions for the added depth before fixing.
  • On solid walls it is usually fixed to treated battens or dot-and-dabbed to a sound, dry background; follow Celotex guidance on the method and any membrane detail.
  • Butt the tapered edges together, then scrim-tape and fill the joints before skimming or decorating.
  • The bonded plasterboard face is the finished surface and carries the board's Euroclass B-s1, d0 reaction-to-fire performance.
  • A full board weighs around 32.6 kg (about 11.31 kg/m²), heavier than the thinner boards, so handle it as a two-person lift.
  • On retrofit of older walls, give vapour control proper attention: the masonry sits colder behind the insulation, so follow current Celotex guidance on interstitial condensation.
  • Celotex PL4060 should not be used in the external walls of buildings over 11 metres in height; confirm against current Building Regulations.
  • Store boards flat, off the ground and under cover, keeping the plasterboard face dry.

With a 60mm core behind a single finished board, 72.5mm Celotex PL4060 is the thickness reached for when a solid or older wall needs a real step change in performance, short only of the range-topping 77.5mm board.

Where build-up depth is not the deciding factor and budget is, you can reach similar R-values for less: we also stock Tekwarm HP+ Insulated Plasterboard, which trades a deeper build-up for a lower price, alongside Tekwarm PIR Insulated Plasterboard as a like-for-like laminate alternative to Celotex PL4000. The full Celotex PL4060 datasheet is available to download for the complete specification and installation detail.

Important Notice: Please be aware that during periods of high demand, we reserve the right to provide alternative brands that meet the same specifications and quality standards as the products you originally ordered.

Thermal Performance

Thermal performance helps show how effectively the product reduces heat transfer.

Thermal conductivity measures how readily heat passes through the material, so lower figures generally indicate better insulating performance.

R Value shows the material’s thermal resistance at that thickness, so higher figures generally mean stronger insulation performance.

These figures relate to the insulation product itself and should be considered alongside the full wall, roof or floor build-up when checking project requirements.

Thermal Conductivity:
0.022 W/mK
R Value:
2.75 M²K/W
Fire Performance

Euroclass reaction to fire is the European EN 13501-1 classification used to show how a construction product behaves when exposed to fire.

The main scale runs from A1 and A2 at the highest end, through B, C, D and E, down to F.

A1 is non-combustible and A2 is limited combustibility, while lower classes indicate a greater contribution to fire.

Euroclass F is the lowest rating on this scale and indicates the weakest reaction-to-fire performance.

This is different from fire resistance, which relates to how long a complete wall, floor or roof build-up can resist fire.

Reaction to Fire:
Euroclass B-s1
