Product Description

25mm versatile PIR insulation board can be used in pitched roofs, floors and framed walls. It is lightweight & easy to cut, making installation easy for those not in the trade. Unilin PIR insulation offers optimum stability in a variety of conditions including low & high temperatures, humidity, moisture sunlight & UV. Available in a range of thicknesses from 15mm to 150mm to suit the requirements of your project. Unilin PIR can also be used in internal walls, ceilings & loft.  Unilin PIR insulation, can be used for retro-fit & new build projects. Unilin also offers the thinnest PIR board on the market at 15mm, and to add to this Insulation UK is now offering a half board in this thickness, making insulating smaller spaces even easier!

Good to know 

  • The energy used to produce the boards can be outweighed by the energy saved by using Unilin insulation in just 8 months.
  • PIR insulation although moisture resistant, is not waterproof and therefore should be stored indoors and not at risk to the elements.

  • Boards should be installed with a staggered pattern, ensuring the edges are a tight fit. We also supply insulation strips

How do I know what thickness of PIR insulation I need?

The thickness of your insulation board will be dependent on a few factors. Is your insulation for walls, floors or a pitched roof, how much space is there and what u value do you need to achieve. Is PIR better than expanded polystyrene insulation (EPS)?

Each type of insulation offers its own unique benefits & limitations, and is wholly depend on what you want to achieve. Check out our understanding insulation guide to help you with your decisions

It says the that PIR insulation is suitable for walls, can I use this as a cavity wall?

The standard PIR boards can be used for cavity wall insulation, but you will need to cut them to size, ensure you have cavity batts to ensure a 50mm air gap. We recommend using either Eurowall+ full fill cavity boards or Eurowall partial fill cavity insulation board

Can you paint straight onto PIR boards?

No, if you are using PIR as a wall insulation, we recommend using plasterboard

and a plaster like British Gypsum Thistle Multi Finish Plaster 25kg

once the wall is plastered then you can decorate.

Do you sell Xtratherm PIR insulation?

Unilin is the new name for Xtratherm, so if Xtratherm was your go to brand, you are still getting the same board, just a new name!

Hi do I calculate a U value?

U-values are determined for various building elements, including walls, floors, roofs, windows, and door and calculating U values can be daunting. There are several factors to include, especially where the insulation will be installed. There are calculators available, but our technical team can help call us on 03003 034 578.

Is cutting PIR insulation messy?

If you need to cut your PIR to fit a particular size, then be aware it can be a messy job. Make sure any floor is covered you can use floor protection

What is PIR?

PIR stands for polyisocyanurate and is a rigid foam board insulation. It is a closed cell foam structure

If the PIR board has a foil facing do I need DPM?

When using PIR insulation as a floor insulation, you will need a DPM, you can shop DPM rolls here

Does the PIR board have writing on?

Yes, the PIR board normally has the manufacturers name written on it.

I need to cut my PIR does it have any lines to ensure a straight cut?

Yes the PIR board has grid lines to enable you to cut it correctly.

Can you stick PIR boards straight to the wall?

No, the boards can't be attached directly to the wall, you need to place wooden battens to the wall to affix the PIR. It is recommended that you have at least a 50mm air gap between the wall and the insulation

Are PIR boards foil faced?

Yes PIR insulation boards are foil faced on both sides

What is the thermal conductivity of PIR?

PIR has a low thermal conductivity (0.022 W/mK) to optimize energy savings.

Ordering & Delivery

How do I place an order with Insulation UK?

You can place an order for delivery anytime online. If you want to collect from our distribution centre in South Yorkshire then please email us your requirements at sales@insulationuk.co.uk
and we will send a payment link and collection instructions. If you can’t see what you are looking for or need more information, then call our team on 03003 034 578 and we can sort your order from there.

How do I know what’s happening with my order and when I will receive it?

When you have placed your order, you will then receive an email confirmation, giving you an order reference number and asking you to double check everything is correct on your order such as delivery address, quantities etc. If there are any amendments to be made, then please reply to your confirmation email with any details.

Once the team has processed the order you will receive an email with a BY delivery date, this is the latest date you will receive your delivery.

Your final email will be a 24/48hr notification, on the day of the delivery if you need a more accurate ETA then contact the office on 03003 034 578. 

Do you offer next-day delivery?

Yes, we do on certain lines, you will see our next day delivery products marked as NEXT DAY. Order before 12pm for next day delivery (charges will apply)

How much does delivery cost and how long will it take?

Standard delivery is £50 + VAT for all orders below £500 excluding VAT, above £500 excluding VAT delivery is free. Bespoke deliveries can be made but will incur charges. Each product page gives you an estimate delivery by date. For more accurate information call the team on 03003 034 578

Can I choose a specific delivery date or time slot?

Do you deliver nationwide?

We deliver across most of the UK; however, some postcodes are restricted due to their location. Check out our delivery map for more information. If you find that you are in area we don’t deliver to, we have access to a wide range of haulage options, please call the team on 03003 034 578 to discuss your requirements further.

Will the driver help unload the insulation products?

Most of our deliveries are made with vehicles with mechanical off-load (known as a moffett or fork-lift), the driver will leave them in a safe place of your choice. They will help as much as they are allowed but are not insured to bring anything into a property.

What happens if my order arrives damaged or incomplete?

In the unlikely event your order arrives damaged, then please contact within 48 hours at sales@insulationuk.co.uk with any images of the damage and the team will be in touch. If there is anything missing, then notify the team within 48 hours on 03003 034 578

What if my order doesn’t arrive and I have paid for trades to be on site, can I claim anything towards the costs I have incurred?

We advise not to have trades booked in and around the day of your delivery. Things can happen beyond our control, and your delivery may be delayed or abandoned. We cannot be held liable for any consequential loss such as tradesman wages etc.
