Product Description
Product Description
150mm Unilin PIR Insulation Board is the thickest and highest-performing rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) board in the Unilin Thin-R XT/PR-UF range. With a manufacturer-declared thermal resistance of 6.80 m²K/W and a declared thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK, this board represents the ceiling of single-layer PIR performance available from Unilin. It is the specification choice for projects where nothing less than the maximum thermal resistance the product line can deliver will satisfy the U-value calculation, and for those designed to stay ahead of standards that continue to tighten.
Each board measures 2400mm x 1200mm x 150mm and covers 2.88m² per board. At 150mm this is the heaviest and most substantial sheet in the range: two-person handling is essential at every stage, from offloading and moving around site to positioning and aligning within the build-up. Pallet and stacking space should be factored into the site logistics plan before boards are ordered, as the storage footprint at this depth is significant. Compressive strength is 150 kPa at 10% compression (to BS EN 826), supporting screed, floating floor finishes and underfloor heating systems without deformation, and delivering that load-bearing capacity across the full 150mm section.
Low-emissivity composite aluminium foil facings are autohesively bonded to both sides of the closed-cell PIR core during manufacture, forming a gas-tight seal. At 150mm the board contains the largest volume of gas-filled closed cells of any thickness in the range, and preserving that sealed structure is what locks in the declared R-value of 6.80 m²K/W for the full service life of the building. The thermal investment at the top of the range is substantial, and the gas-tight foil construction protects it. Vapour resistance exceeds 300 MNs/gm. The foil facings are low-emissivity thermal facings, not a vapour control layer; where the build-up design requires a VCL, it must be specified and installed separately.
150mm Unilin PIR is specified for the most thermally demanding floor, roof and wall applications. In ground-supported floor constructions (over concrete slabs with screed or floating finishes), it provides the highest available single-layer R-value for driving down floor U-values. In flat roof warm-deck systems and over-rafter pitched roof constructions, 150mm is specified where the design targets the lowest achievable U-values or where future-proofing against potential regulation changes is a design priority. In deep-section framed wall constructions, the board satisfies build-ups targeting stringent envelope performance. The closed-cell PIR core is rot-proof, moisture-resistant and dimensionally stable across the temperature and humidity conditions encountered in service, and the board is CFC and HCFC free with zero ozone depletion potential. A damp-proof membrane should be provided in ground floor constructions where required by the specification. Cut with a fine-toothed insulation saw, stagger all joints and tape where the specification calls for it, and follow the latest Unilin technical guidance and project specification throughout. Perimeter insulation strips are available separately. For thinner options or to compare across the range, browse the full Unilin PIR range from 15mm to 150mm.
Key Benefits of 150mm Unilin PIR Insulation Board:
- Manufacturer-declared R-value of 6.80 m²K/W: the highest thermal resistance available from a single board in the Unilin Thin-R range
- Declared thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK
- The thickest board in the range, delivering maximum single-layer PIR insulation performance for U-value calculations
- Compressive strength of 150 kPa at 10% compression (BS EN 826): handles screed, floating finishes and underfloor heating across the full 150mm section
- Full-size 2.4m x 1.2m rigid PIR sheet covering 2.88m² per board
- Square-edged; stagger boards, maintain tight joints and tape where specified to preserve insulation continuity
- Low-emissivity composite aluminium foil facings on both sides, gas-tight and autohesively bonded during manufacture
- Vapour resistance greater than 300 MNs/gm
- Closed-cell polyisocyanurate core: rot-proof, moisture-resistant and dimensionally stable for the life of the building
- CFC/HCFC free with zero Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP)

Good to Know
- Thickness: 150mm (maximum in the Unilin Thin-R XT/PR-UF range); board size: 2400mm x 1200mm; coverage: 2.88m² per board
- Thermal resistance (R-value): 6.80 m²K/W (manufacturer-declared), the highest single-board R-value in the range
- Compressive strength: 150 kPa at 10% compression to BS EN 826
- Vapour resistance: >300 MNs/gm
- Reaction to fire: Euroclass F to BS EN 13501-1
- Foil facings are low-emissivity thermal facings only; specify a separate vapour control layer where the build-up requires one
- A damp-proof membrane (DPM) is normally required in ground floor constructions
- Two-person handling is essential throughout; 150mm boards are the heaviest in the range and require planned delivery access, site storage and careful stacking
- Board depth affects finished floor levels, ceiling heights and overall build-up dimensions; confirm construction details before specifying
- Cut with a fine-toothed insulation saw; stagger joints and seal with foil tape where specified
- Store under cover, off the ground, protected from the elements; the storage footprint at 150mm is significant and should be planned at ordering stage
- Refer to the latest Unilin datasheet, Declaration of Performance and BBA certificate before specifying or ordering

Thermal performance helps show how effectively the product reduces heat transfer.
Thermal conductivity measures how readily heat passes through the material, so lower figures generally indicate better insulating performance.
R Value shows the material’s thermal resistance at that thickness, so higher figures generally mean stronger insulation performance.
These figures relate to the insulation product itself and should be considered alongside the full wall, roof or floor build-up when checking project requirements.
- Thermal Conductivity:
- 0.022 W/mK
Compressive strength shows how well a product resists being squashed under pressure.
The figure is measured in kPa, which stands for kilopascals.
A higher kPa number means stronger resistance to compression. For example, 120 kPa offers more compression resistance than 70 kPa, but less than 150 kPa, 200 kPa or 300 kPa.
This does not mean the product can carry that load on its own. It should always be checked as part of the full floor, wall, roof or system build-up.
- Compressive Strength:
- 140 kPa
Euroclass reaction to fire is the European EN 13501-1 classification used to show how a construction product behaves when exposed to fire.
The main scale runs from A1 and A2 at the highest end, through B, C, D and E, down to F.
A1 is non-combustible and A2 is limited combustibility, while lower classes indicate a greater contribution to fire.
Euroclass F is the lowest rating on this scale and indicates the weakest reaction-to-fire performance.
This is different from fire resistance, which relates to how long a complete wall, floor or roof build-up can resist fire.
- Reaction to Fire:
- Euro F
