Our Expert Says:

Go for the 75mm when you have the depth to spare and want a step up from the standard 50mm. It is a favourite for floor joists and deeper stud walls, where the extra thickness noticeably softens footsteps, voices and everyday household noise. You also get one of the longest rolls in the range at 14.5m, so each pack stretches further than you might expect. It friction fits between studs and joists with no fixings needed and cuts cleanly with a sharp knife, so installation is quick whether you are a pro or a confident DIYer. Not sure whether to go 75mm or 100mm? Drop us a message and we will help you choose. https://www.insulationuk.co.uk/blogs/product-range-reviews/knauf-acoustic-insulation-roll

Product Description

Knauf Acoustic Roll is a glass mineral wool roll made for internal wall and floor applications where sound absorption and noise reduction are needed. It is the most widely used acoustic insulation product in the UK for separating and internal wall and floor constructions, and the go-to choice for meeting Approved Document E of the Building Regulations.

The 75mm roll sits between the 63mm and 100mm options in the range and is a popular pick for deeper stud partitions and floor voids, where the extra thickness helps soak up more sound than the slimmer rolls. It is manufactured to a density above 10 kg/m³, which is the minimum required for an acoustic absorption layer under Approved Document E, and has been tested with all major brands of plasterboard. It is also suitable for use with a wide range of Robust Details registered constructions, which reduces the need for onsite acoustic testing.

Each pack contains a single 1200mm wide roll, ready-cut to produce 2 x 600mm wide rolls that friction fit snugly between standard stud or joist centres, closing joints and reducing the risk of gaps that would let sound through. At 14.5m long, each pack covers 17.4m², one of the longest roll lengths in the range, making it easy to handle, transport and store.

The product is non-combustible with a Euroclass A1 reaction to fire classification and is manufactured in Britain using ECOSE Technology, Knauf's plant-based binder with no added formaldehyde. It contains up to 80% recycled glass, generates low levels of dust and VOCs, and holds the Eurofins Gold Certificate for Indoor Air Comfort.

Odourless, rot proof and non-hygroscopic, it will not sustain vermin or encourage mould, fungi or bacteria, and will last for the lifetime of the building.

Thermal Performance

Thermal performance helps show how effectively the product reduces heat transfer.

Thermal conductivity measures how readily heat passes through the material, so lower figures generally indicate better insulating performance.

R Value shows the material’s thermal resistance at that thickness, so higher figures generally mean stronger insulation performance.

These figures relate to the insulation product itself and should be considered alongside the full wall, roof or floor build-up when checking project requirements.

Thermal Conductivity:
0.035 W/mK
R Value:
2.10 m²K/W
Fire Performance

Euroclass reaction to fire is the European EN 13501-1 classification used to show how a construction product behaves when exposed to fire.

The main scale runs from A1 and A2 at the highest end, through B, C, D and E, down to F.

A1 is non-combustible and A2 is limited combustibility, while lower classes indicate a greater contribution to fire.

Euroclass F is the lowest rating on this scale and indicates the weakest reaction-to-fire performance.

This is different from fire resistance, which relates to how long a complete wall, floor or roof build-up can resist fire.

Euroclass A1
