Our Expert Says

50mm ODE STARflex Acoustic Partition Roll HP is the thickness ODE publishes tested partition data for, which makes it a sensible default when a build needs a number to point at. In a 75mm partition using a 50mm profile with 12.5mm plasterboard either side, ODE quotes a sound absorption value of 40.1dB. It carries the same 0.8 to 1.0 sound absorption coefficient and Euroclass A1 non-combustible reaction to fire as the rest of the STARflex APR HP line, and arrives pre-cut into two 600mm widths so it drops straight into standard stud centres without extra cutting on site. A dependable mid-range choice for partition walls and floors in domestic and light commercial builds. Click for our full review

Product Description

Where most acoustic rolls leave you working from a coefficient alone, 50mm ODE STARflex Acoustic Partition Roll HP has published partition data behind it. ODE quotes a sound absorption value of 40.1dB for a 75mm partition built with a 50mm profile, 50mm STARflex APR and 12.5mm plasterboard on both faces. That makes this thickness a straightforward starting point for standard internal partition work.

The roll is a glass mineral wool product from ODE, the Turkish insulation manufacturer established in 1985, built for acoustic partition applications rather than general thermal use. Each roll measures 1200mm x 10m, giving 12m² of coverage per roll at a density of 18 kg/m³, and is supplied pre-cut into two 600mm widths for a friction-fit between standard stud centres. It carries a sound absorption coefficient of 0.8 to 1.0 and a Euroclass A1 non-combustible reaction to fire classification to BS EN 13501-1, the highest fire rating available.

At 10m, the 50mm roll covers half the area of the 25mm and is denser through the section, so a partition run gets through more rolls but builds a heavier acoustic layer per metre of wall. The 2 x 600mm pre-cut width keeps that manageable: installers handle two ready-sized lengths rather than cutting down a single wide roll, which keeps fitting consistent across a run and limits offcuts.

50mm ODE STARflex Acoustic Partition Roll HP is intended for use within internal stud partitions and floor voids, wherever sound transmission between rooms or floors needs to be reduced. It should be installed in line with ODE's current technical guidance and the relevant project specification. Sitting in the middle of the STARflex APR HP range, the 50mm roll adds material depth over the 25mm option while still fitting comfortably within standard partition cavity depths.

Key Benefits of ODE STARflex Acoustic Partition Roll HP:

  • Glass mineral wool acoustic partition roll built specifically for sound control in stud partitions and floors
  • 40.1dB sound absorption value published by ODE for a 75mm partition with 50mm profile and 12.5mm plasterboard both sides
  • Sound absorption coefficient of 0.8 to 1.0
  • Euroclass A1 non-combustible reaction to fire to BS EN 13501-1, the highest fire classification available
  • Supplied pre-cut into two 600mm widths for a friction-fit between standard stud centres
  • Made from over 80% recycled glass content
  • 1200mm x 10m roll size giving 12m² coverage per roll at 18 kg/m³ density
  • Fits standard partition cavity depths without extra material buildup
  • Reduces on-site cutting and offcut waste compared with a single wide roll
  • Suitable for domestic and light commercial internal partition work
  • Engineered not to degrade, decompose or become mouldy over time, per ODE

Good to Know:

  • Mid-range depth, same rated performance: the sound absorption coefficient and A1 fire classification are consistent across the whole STARflex APR HP range, so thickness choice comes down to available cavity depth and the partition build rather than a change in classification.
  • Read the dB figure in context: the 40.1dB value applies to the specific ODE build-up quoted above. A different profile, board thickness or board layup will perform differently, so check against the project's acoustic specification.

For standard partition builds where a moderate cavity depth is available, 50mm ODE STARflex Acoustic Partition Roll HP gives you a dependable, fast-fitting option with published partition data behind it.

Fire Performance

Euroclass reaction to fire is the European EN 13501-1 classification used to show how a construction product behaves when exposed to fire.

The main scale runs from A1 and A2 at the highest end, through B, C, D and E, down to F.

A1 is non-combustible and A2 is limited combustibility, while lower classes indicate a greater contribution to fire.

Euroclass F is the lowest rating on this scale and indicates the weakest reaction-to-fire performance.

This is different from fire resistance, which relates to how long a complete wall, floor or roof build-up can resist fire.
