Our Expert Says

150mm ODE STARflex Loft Roll Ultra 42 sits right in the middle of the range, which makes it one of the more flexible options on the page: thick enough to do a useful job on its own in outbuildings or lower-spec spaces, and substantial enough to use as the cross-laid top-up over an existing base layer in a full loft build-up. It carries the same 0.042 W/mK thermal conductivity and Euroclass A1 non-combustible fire rating as the rest of the STARflex Ultra 42 range, at a price that holds up well against the market, and it's perforated so it can be split into 570mm or 380mm-wide strips for a neat fit between standard joist centres. Made from more than 80% recycled glass content, it won't degrade, decompose or turn mouldy over time, so it earns its keep for the lifetime of the building rather than a few winters. Product Description

150mm ODE STARflex Loft Roll Ultra 42 is a glass mineral wool insulation roll for cold loft spaces, laid at ceiling level between and over the joists to reduce heat loss through the roof. Sitting in the middle of the STARflex Ultra 42 range, the 150mm roll works either as a standalone layer where a moderate depth is needed, or as the thicker half of a cross-laid build-up over an existing base layer.

Each roll measures 1140mm wide by 7.0m long, covering 7.98m² per roll, and is supplied as a single roll per pack. Thermal conductivity is 0.042 W/mK, giving a thermal resistance of 3.57 m²K/W at 150mm thickness, and the product carries a Euroclass A1 non-combustible reaction-to-fire classification, the highest rating available, meaning it does not burn. That combination of depth, thermal performance and fire rating makes it a flexible middle-of-the-range option at a competitive price.

STARflex Loft Roll Ultra 42 is manufactured from more than 80% recycled glass content and won't degrade, decompose or become mouldy over time, so once it's in place it's built to last the lifetime of the building rather than needing replacing down the line. The roll is also perforated so it can be split into two 570mm-wide strips or three 380mm-wide strips, giving a neater fit between standard ceiling joist centres with less waste. It comes in Hyperpack palletised packaging, which allows more product to be loaded per pallet, keeps stocking costs down, and means it can be stored outdoors if site space is tight.

It suits both new build and renovation loft insulation work: use it as a single layer in spaces like garages, outbuildings or where a moderate depth is sufficient, or cross-lay it over a thinner base layer to build up towards full depth in a domestic loft. Install in line with the latest ODE technical guidance and the project specification. Used as intended, it offers a flexible, cost-effective way to add real depth to a loft build-up.

Key Benefits of ODE STARflex Loft Roll Ultra 42:

Thermal Performance

Thermal performance helps show how effectively the product reduces heat transfer.

Thermal conductivity measures how readily heat passes through the material, so lower figures generally indicate better insulating performance.

R Value shows the material’s thermal resistance at that thickness, so higher figures generally mean stronger insulation performance.

These figures relate to the insulation product itself and should be considered alongside the full wall, roof or floor build-up when checking project requirements.

Thermal Conductivity:
0.042 W/mK
Fire Performance

Euroclass reaction to fire is the European EN 13501-1 classification used to show how a construction product behaves when exposed to fire.

The main scale runs from A1 and A2 at the highest end, through B, C, D and E, down to F.

A1 is non-combustible and A2 is limited combustibility, while lower classes indicate a greater contribution to fire.

Euroclass F is the lowest rating on this scale and indicates the weakest reaction-to-fire performance.

This is different from fire resistance, which relates to how long a complete wall, floor or roof build-up can resist fire.

Reaction to Fire:
Euroclass A1, non-combustible to EN 13501-1
