Recticel Eurowall®+ Full Fill Cavity Wall Insulation Review
Recticel Eurowall®+ is not the sort of insulation board you choose because it sounds good on a spec sheet. You choose it because the design solves a real problem on site.
Full fill cavity insulation has to do more than hit a thermal number. It needs to sit properly in the wall, reduce gaps between boards, support a cleaner build-up, and still leave enough room for bricklayers to work without turning the job into a battle. That is where Recticel Eurowall®+ makes its case.
The range is designed for full fill masonry cavity wall applications and uses tongue and groove joints on all four sides. This helps the boards lock together tightly, reducing the risk of thermal weak spots through board joints while also supporting a cleaner, more consistent insulation layer.
For anyone building a new home, extension, commercial unit or cavity wall project where energy performance matters, this is exactly the kind of board that deserves a proper look.
The Recticel Eurowall®+ range at a glance
Insulation UK currently lists the main stocked thicknesses in the Eurowall®+ range as 90mm, 115mm and 140mm, all supplied in a practical 1200mm x 460mm board format. Each thickness is designed for full fill cavity wall insulation, with the thermal performance increasing as the board thickness increases.
| Product | Board size | Pack coverage | R-value | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 90mm Recticel Eurowall®+ | 1200mm x 460mm | 5.40m² | 4.05 m²K/W | Standard full fill cavity wall upgrades and tighter wall build-ups. |
| 115mm Recticel Eurowall®+ | 1200mm x 460mm | 4.32m² | 5.20 m²K/W | A strong middle-ground option where the cavity design allows for a thicker board. |
| 140mm Recticel Eurowall®+ | 1200mm x 460mm | 4.32m² | 6.35 m²K/W | Higher-spec builds aiming for the strongest thermal resistance in this stocked range. |
Recticel Eurowall®+ value
The value in Recticel Eurowall®+ is not only in the lambda value. Plenty of insulation boards can look attractive when you compare thermal conductivity alone. The reason Eurowall®+ stands out is the way the board is designed for the cavity wall application itself.
The four-sided tongue and groove edge is the big selling point. On a cavity wall, small gaps, poor board alignment and awkward joints can all chip away at the real-world performance of the build. Eurowall®+ is designed to help the boards interlock, giving installers a better chance of achieving a tighter, more consistent insulation layer through the wall.
For trade buyers, that means a product that can help keep the job moving without relying on a fiddly install. For self-builders and homeowners, it means you are not only buying PIR board, you are buying a cavity-specific insulation board designed around thermal performance, installation practicality and masonry wall construction.
Thermal performance
Recticel Eurowall®+ has a declared thermal conductivity of 0.022 W/mK, which puts it firmly in high-performance PIR territory. The R-values step up clearly through the stocked range: 4.05 m²K/W for 90mm, 5.20 m²K/W for 115mm and 6.35 m²K/W for 140mm.
In plain English, the thicker you go, the better the thermal resistance. The 90mm board gives you a strong full fill cavity wall option where the wall design or available space is tighter. The 115mm board is a strong middle ground. The 140mm board is the one to look at when the build-up allows for a higher-performing cavity wall specification.
It is important to be accurate here: the board itself does not guarantee a finished wall U-value on its own. The final U-value depends on the full wall construction, including block type, cavity design, wall ties, mortar joints, internal finishes and the quality of installation.
Installation and site practicality
This is where Eurowall®+ earns a lot of its appeal.
Some insulation products look good in theory but become a pain when they hit site. Recticel Eurowall®+ has clearly been designed with the installer in mind. The tongue and groove rebate on all four sides helps boards meet cleanly, while the 1200mm x 460mm format is sized for cavity wall use rather than being a generic board squeezed into the wrong job.
The residual cavity design is also a practical detail. Full fill rigid boards can be awkward if there is no working space left for the bricklayer. Eurowall®+ is designed so that a nominal residual cavity remains, helping the outer leaf be built using conventional bricklaying techniques.
For contractors, that can make the product easier to justify on jobs where speed, repeatability and build quality all matter. For homeowners or self-builders, it gives extra reassurance that the product has not been designed in isolation from how cavity walls are actually built.
Wind-driven rain and wall performance
One of the useful points with Eurowall®+ is that the tongue and groove joint design supports a tighter board fit, which can help reduce gaps in the insulation layer and support better overall wall performance.
That does not mean you can ignore correct wall design, exposure zones, workmanship, wall ties, cavity trays, mortar control or project-specific requirements. Those things still matter. A good board installed badly is still a risk.
What it does mean is that Eurowall®+ has been designed for the conditions cavity walls face, rather than being a high-performance PIR board with a cavity wall label attached.
Which thickness should you choose?
90mm Recticel Eurowall®+
The 90mm board is the most accessible option in the range for standard cavity wall projects. It still carries the same 0.022 W/mK thermal conductivity and four-sided tongue and groove edge profile as the thicker boards, with an R-value of 4.05 m²K/W. This is a strong option where you want a proper full fill PIR cavity board without jumping straight to the thickest specification.
115mm Recticel Eurowall®+
The 115mm board is the step-up choice. It gives a stronger R-value of 5.20 m²K/W while keeping the same 1200mm x 460mm board size and cavity-focused design. This is the balanced choice for many builds, offering a noticeable thermal uplift over 90mm without immediately moving to the 140mm option.
140mm Recticel Eurowall®+
The 140mm board is the highest-performing stocked option in this range, with an R-value of 6.35 m²K/W. This is the board to put forward when performance is the priority and the wall design supports the thickness. It is the clearest upgrade option for higher-spec cavity wall builds.
Quality and specification confidence
Recticel Eurowall®+ is backed by technical documentation including a technical data sheet, BBA certification, Declaration of Performance, Environmental Product Declaration and product guides. That matters because cavity wall insulation is not a product category where vague confidence is enough.
Builders, specifiers and homeowners need to know there is proper technical information behind the product. Eurowall®+ gives you that supporting paperwork, making it easier to discuss the product with building control, architects, contractors or energy assessors where needed.
Any drawbacks?
The main drawback is that Eurowall®+ is a specification-led product. It is not the right product to buy casually without checking the wall build-up.
You need to confirm the required cavity size, target U-value, exposure conditions, wall type, building height, project details and installation requirements before choosing a thickness. The final wall performance depends on the complete construction, not the insulation board alone.
The products listed also show Euroclass F reaction to fire classification, so this needs to be considered properly as part of the wider wall design, especially on projects with stricter fire requirements or buildings where additional restrictions apply.
Our expert verdict
Recticel Eurowall®+ is one of the strongest choices in the full fill cavity wall insulation category because it does the two things that matter most: it delivers strong PIR thermal performance and it is designed around real cavity wall installation.
The 0.022 W/mK thermal conductivity gives the range a strong performance base. The tongue and groove joints help create a tighter insulation layer. The cavity-focused board format makes sense for masonry construction. The choice of 90mm, 115mm and 140mm thicknesses gives builders and specifiers room to match the product to the wall design rather than forcing one board into every project.
If you want the most practical all-rounder, look closely at the 115mm Recticel Eurowall®+. If your wall build-up is tighter, the 90mm board gives you the same core product design in a slimmer format. If the project calls for the strongest thermal resistance in this stocked range, the 140mm board is the clear upgrade.
For new masonry cavity wall projects where performance, installation quality and specification confidence all matter, Recticel Eurowall®+ is a very strong range to have on your shortlist.
