Under Floor Insulation

You could be losing as much as 20% of your heating through the floor, even with ceiling and wall insulation!

Under Floor Insulation is one of the easiest ways to improve the warmth and comfort of your home. It’s easy, inexpensive, and the cost savings start showing very quickly.

Check your Insulation

It pays to check if there’s any existing under floor insulation in your home. If there isn’t you will need to have quality insulation installed. If there is, it may need to be replaced if it is showing signs of wear and damage. Check for some of these symptoms;

  • It is loose, not fitted firmly against the floor
  • Has pieces missing
  • Showing gaps
  • Has been damaged

It may pay to arrange a qualified professional to come to your home and check your insulation for you. Generally this is free of charge and they will be able to recommend an insulation solution based on your specific home and location. They may also be able to tell you if you qualify for any government funding at the same time.

If it is easy to access underneath your floorboards, you could probably install Under Floor Insulation yourself. Most of the equipment can be purchased from your local hardware store and is relatively inexpensive. Some floor types will require professional installation, such as solid floors. These are insulated using rigid foam, which is fitted either above or below the concrete. The concrete itself is very effective at retaining and storing heat, but effective insulation is needed to keep the heat from escaping around and underneath the slab.

We suggest you use a qualified, reputable installer to firstly survey your needs, and then make recommendations based on your home and location.
