Pipe Insulation

It takes a significant amount of energy to heat the quantity of water used in an average household. Find out how to get the most out of the energy you’re paying easily and affordably – you can even do it yourself!

To save yourself paying for wasted energy in lost heat, it is important to minimise the amount of heat lost through pipes through Pipe Insulation or ‘pipe lagging’. This is one of the easiest and simplest ways to improve the energy efficiency of your home at with minimal costs and intrusion. Pipe Insulation can also prevent pipes from freezing if your home is an area where frost is an issue during the colder months.

There are many different types and brands of pipe insulation, so it is recommended you do some research before installing to ensure you’re using the right product for your home and environment. Once you have the product you need, installation is simple and you could even do it yourself with the right tools and know how.

Tubular sleeve

Tubular sleeve is the most common type of Pipe Insulation and the easiest to install. If you’re insulating existing pipes simply slice the length of the insulation and place it around the pipe. Seal the cut you made with duct tape and ensure each length is butted up against the next. You can cut the insulation to any length you need and tape the different sections together. Each gap is an area in which heat can escape so try to place the insulation in as many areas you can access. If you’re insulating new pipes, simply slide the insulation on before installing the pipes and install them as normal.
